CARRY ON - New Single Coming Nov 20, 2020

CARRY ON – Inside the Lyrics

There was a time in my music career when I spent many days and nights working in the bars and nightclubs that were located in some of the “less than desirable” neighbourhoods of our cities and towns in western Canada. I saw a lot of things that I had never seen before growing up in a small town in rural Saskatchewan. It was quite eye-opening in a lot of ways.

People with drug and alcohol addictions, homeless people, mentally challenged, unemployed and down on their luck, mean and despicable people, thieves and thugs etc etc. I'm not saying that it was all bad, of course there were many good and friendly people we met as well. But the “other side” of life was something that you couldn't help but notice and feel the affects that it had on those people and yourself.

It was experiencing that way of life and living among those people that gave me the inspiration to write CARRY ON. I wanted to try and put myself in their shoes and feel what they were going through; Try to find something within myself that would allow me to relate to them and how they lived their lives. I don't know if I ever really got there but this song was my best effort to try to find that relationship.

It's been a few years now since I was living that life, but I know that it's still out there. Just because I don't see it every day anymore, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. There are still people out there suffering in some way. All I can do is hope for the best for them and that they can find a way out from under a bad situation and give their lives more meaning and satisfaction.

CARRY ON is not the kind of song that you'll hear on commercial radio and I wouldn't expect them to play it either. After all it is well over six minutes long, a slower tempo and not at all a “fun” song or topic. But I do think it's a song that will resonate with “You” as a compassionate and caring person. I hope it will give us all a little something to think about. It certainly does for me.
